AVG Secure Search is a browser toolbar/extension/plug-in designed by AVG technologies, who provides both free and paid anti-virus applications to users. Many of their products come with the add-on AVG Secure Search that replaces the original toolbar on your favorite web browser, vetting your search results.

For example, it will collect your search terms and figure out which applications to recommend in your search results, where you can see advertisements, coupons, and sponsored links. If you prefer a clean browsing environment instead of seeing needless contents round, just get ready to remove it.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to independently remove from your system and your browser. So hereby we prepared corresponding cleaning steps for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. You’re going to learn the effective methods to completely remove AVG Secure Search from your PC. Or you can visit here for more relevant instructions.

How to Manually Remove AVG Secure Search?

Part One: Remove AVG Secure Search from your PC

1. First of all, you need to shut down all programs of AVG Secure Search working in the background on your PC. Any program currently running the plug-in shall be closed. Then you can open Control Panel to start the removal.

If you are using Windows XP, click on Start button in the lower left corner, select Settings then Control Panel, and open the Add/Remove Program tool.

If you are using Windows 7, click on Start button, select Control Panel, click on Uninstall a program under the Programs section.

If you are using Windows 8, move your mouse point to the lower right corner, and stay for a while until you see the menu pops up from the right side. Type control panel in the search box, hit the Enter key, then click on Uninstall a program like that on Windows 7.

(Another option for Windows 8 user: double-click “This PC” on desktop, click on Open Control Panel button, then Uninstall a program.)

2. When the list is completely loaded, scroll over to find AVG Secure Search (and any other unknown program recently installed) or press F key on the keyboard to locate it quickly, click on Uninstall/Change button at the top of the list or double-click the item to start removing it.

When a window shows up telling you “The uninstallation requires your browsers to be closed during the process. Please make sure your browsers are closed before continuing.”, click on OK. After that, another window will pops up telling you your browser is going to be restarted, you may click on Yes.

Part Two: Remove AVG Secure Search from Your Browser (Restore Settings)

The toolbar has made some changes on your browser, which you need to undo step by step. Yet before doing anything, you should be aware that some part of the instruction below will erase the the browser’s history, favorite items, and account & password records, etc., and they won’t be restored. So I suggest you backing up all the useful and precious data first.

Remove AVG Secure Search from Internet Explorer

1.Open Internet Explorer, click on the gear icon button (Tools on Windows XP) at the top right, and select Manage add-ons. Select AVG Secure Search add-on, and click on Disable all.

2. To undo the change of default search engine of Internet Explorer, click on the gear icon button, select Manage add-ons > click Search Providers under Add-on Types > right-click the one you prefer > hit the Set as default button> Right-click avg.com in the list > click on Remove.

3.To undo the homepage change of Internet Explorer, likewise, click on the gear icon button > select Internet Explore options > click on Use default under the Homepage section in General tab. The original one will be restored.

Ooooookay, no matter which browser you’re using, the cleaning job should be done by now : )

Remove AVG Secure Search from Mozilla Firefox

1. Open Firefox, access the menu by clicking the menu button (displayed as three horizontal lines) at the upper right corner, and select Add-ons to open the sidebar.

2. The Add-ons contents will be presented like web page, select the Extensions tab, highlight the AVG Secure Search item and click on Remove button appearing at end.

3. To directly reset the default search engine and homepage of Firefox from the toolbar’s website to its own default, download the SearchReset > Install it, and use it to restore the default homepage.

Another Option for Firefox User:
1.Open Firefox, click the menu button > icon (question mark).

2.Select Troubleshooting Information, and you will see a new page.

3. Hit the Reset Firefox... button. Firefox will close and be reset by itself, after which a window will show up, listing the details imported. You may click on the Finish button, and Firefox will open.

Remove AVG Secure Search from Google Chrome

1. Open Google Chrome, click on main menu button displayed as three horizontal lines, and select the option labeled Settings.

2. The Settings contents will be displayed in a new tab or window (depending on your configuration). Scroll to the bottom, and click on Show advanced settings.

3. The advanced settings will be displayed. Scroll down until you see the Reset browser settings button, and click on it.

4. A pop-up box will show up asking for your confirmation listing the components that will be restored to the default status. You may click on Reset button to finish the restoration job.

Recommended Method to Remove AVG Secure Search

I hope the instructions can be easily understood. But that doesn’t really matter if you have dragged your sight down here expecting to find the simplest solution. In case for some reason they don’t deliver the desired results, you may take a chance on this part - an easy-to-use tool.

1. Try out Max Uninstaller.

2. After installation, run it, and you will see AVG Secure Search icon in the program list > select it and click on Complete Uninstall. When another dialog box shows up asking whether to proceed, simply click on Next.

3. Remove the extension with Max Uninstaller’s Plug-in Cleaner.

4. After the “Please wait while it initializes the uninstall process.”process is finished, click on Scan Leftovers > and finally Delete Leftovers.
