Google Chrome is a very popular web browser, yet sometimes it could run into problems that make it unstable. For example:

- Google Chrome doesn’t open at all.
- It runs into crashes or slow performance.
- it displays a “Your preferences could not be read” error message at startup.
- Ads constantly appearing on it after adware infection.

In such cases, the most effective solution is to completely uninstall Google Chrome and reinstall it from scratch. This instruction will show you how to uninstall Google Chrome from your PC, but you need to know that if your follow the procedure, then you lose all your personal profile information stored on Google Chrome, including Bookmarks, Passwords, Settings, etc. Follow this procedure at your own responsibility if any of the other solutions didn’t have any effect.

Suggestions: Before going through the removal steps:

2. Backup your bookmarks. (How to do that?)

How Do I Manually Uninstall Google Chrome?

Based on two most widely-used Windows operating systems, we prepared two instructions for you. Just choose the one you need, and please be 100% sure not to delete anything that is not supposed to be gone in the Windows Registry.

How to Back up Windows Registry?

Since the complete uninstall is involved Windows Registry, so before you actually try to uninstall Google Chrome, you are suggested backing up the important registry keys first in case of any trouble.

Then you need to login as an administrator to perform these steps, or you can only change settings that apply to your user account. You can save the backup copy to a location you specify, such as a folder on your hard disk or a removable storage device. If you accidentally made changes and want to undo them, simply import the backup copy (similar to how to export it).

1. To open the Registry Editor, please click the Start button, type regedit into the search box and press Enter on your keyboard. (If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type in the password and provide confirmation.

2. Find and right-click the key(s) or subkey(s) you attempt to back up.

3. Click the File menu, then select Export.

4. In the Save in box, select the location where you want to save the backup copy to, then type a name for the backup file in the File name space.

5. Click Save.

Simply find the Google Chrome (Do the same to Google Update Helper later) item and double-click it. A prompt will show up asking whether you really want to remove the program > click on “Next/Yes” to continue. The first step of removal shall be finished within a few minutes.

3. Go to the Start menu again > Type “regedit” in the search box and press the Enter key on your keyboard > The Windows Registry Editor shows up in a new window.
